Okeechobee County is located north of Lake Okeechobee, the second largest freshwater lake in the United States. The only incorporated city in Okeechobee County also bears the name Okeechobee, a Seminole word meaning “big water”. Our county is home to a year-round population of 39,996, which swells to nearly 70,000 between the months of November and May.

In addition to our 2 high schools, a freshman campus, 2 middle schools, and 5 elementary schools, Okeechobee is also home to Indian River State College’s Dixon Hendry Campus. IRSC offers Bachelor and Associate degrees and technical certificate programs.
